What is Bootloader?
Unlocking the bootloader is essential to customize any Smartphones. If you want to install a custom ROM or just Root your Smartphone then you need to unlock your device bootloader first.

Advantages of Unlock Bootloader

• Possibility of installing a Custom ROM, Root and TWRP;
  
• You can install Incompatible apps by Rooting your phone;
  
• Underclock/Overclock your Phone CPU.
  

Disadvantages of Unlock Bootloader

• Your Device warranty will get void depending where you bought it;
  
• Device performance may be affected, positively or in a negatively way;
  
• After unlocking the bootloader, all your data and files are Erased;
  

Unlock Bootloader Step-by-Step

1. Enable USB debugging and OEM Unlock;
   Settings → Additional settings → Developer Options.(For this, go to Settings → About Phone → Then Tap MIUI version 5-7 times to enable Developer Options);
   
2. Then Turn on your mobile data. Keep in mind, you have to turn on mobile data from the same SIM from which you have created your Mi account;
   
3. Now you have to Tap on Mi Unlock status. And then tap on the Agree button;
   
4. After that, you have to tap on “Add Account and Device“;
   
5. Then, Power off your Phone and boot it into the Fastboot mode. (Press Volume Down and Power Button simultaneously for a couple of seconds);
   
6. Once you enter Fastboot mode, connect your Phone to a PC/Laptop via USB cable.
   
7. Download the Mi Unlock Tool to your PC and extract it. (DOWNLOAD Button)
   Extracted the folder to your Desktop, and open “miflash_unlock.exe”
   Next Sign in with your Mi Account, which was connected with your phone.
   Then Click on the ”Unlock” Button.
   
8. You will have a cooldown of XXX hours minimum depending on your Mi Account
   You need to wait that time and then do this procedure all over again. After that just click on "Unlock" and the procedure will start, wait for it to finish. (IT WILL CLEAN ALL OF YOUR DATA)
   
9. To make sure it's unlocked when booting the device make sure you see a grey lock icon on top of the splash screen. If that appears then you successfully did unlock it.
